Decluttering 101 – Where to start?

Decluttering can be SO overwhelming. You feel like you’ve failed before you even begin. Here are my tips for getting through those defeatist thoughts and getting started.

  1. Decide which room gives you the most anxiety and begin there.
  2. Only work one room at a time.
  3. Do’s & dont’s
DO: Focus on bigger items first
DO: Work in batches to prevent getting overwhelmed
DO: Make 3 piles labeled “keep, trash, donate”
DON’T: Do not leave a bigger mess than you started with. If you need to quit for the day, or even for an hour or so, tidy up where you’re working. If you drug large items out to the hallway, drag them back. If you started a trash pile, take it to the dumpster.
  4. When deciding which items to keep and which to toss, ask yourself these 3 questions:
    -Do I use it often?
-Do I have space for it?
-Do I feel happiness or anxiety keeping it in my home?
