Last March we lost our home in a fire.  It was devastating for so many reasons.  One big daunting task that followed was rebuying all of our possessions.  Imagine every item you’ve ever owned… every sock, every spoon, every pen, every blanket—gone.  Replacing that inventory is overwhelming.  So, let me, very quickly, take you through the process of how I handled this task.  I will also provide a rough list of items we purchased.

 How I handled this was, I sat down, closed my eyes and envisioned a day in my life. 

I would walk in the house from work—okay, where would I sit the mail?  Where would I put my shoes and my coat?

I would walk into the kitchen to start dinner—what pan would I use?  What spatula?

Dinner is cooking, I’ll go change my clothes—do I have loungewear?  Do I have socks?  Ponytails?

I did this over and over.  Going through my days mentally, helped me create a list.  Now, it’s a lot easier if you create your list online.  So, I used my Amazon app to create a list I titled “New House” and every time I would think of something I would go ahead and shop for it and then add it to my list to purchase later.

I hope, if you’re reading this, it’s educational or because you voluntarily have moved.  But, if you are also going through the loss of a home—please know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you are not alone.
