The 30-Minute Cleaning Method That Keeps My House Looking Tidy Every Day

If you’ve ever wondered how some people keep their homes looking tidy without spending hours cleaning, here’s the truth: it’s not about doing more — it’s about doing less, but doing the right things.

My house looks company-ready almost every day, and it takes me about 30 minutes total to get it there. Not because I’m naturally neat, and definitely not because I’m doing marathon cleans. It’s because I follow a simple cleaning system I created years ago called The Daily Six, the top half of my 6/10 List.

How This Started

In my early 20s, my house was always a mess. I assumed it was because I was bad at cleaning. Turns out, I wasn’t bad at cleaning — I was doing too much of the wrong cleaning.

I spent time scrubbing things that didn’t matter while ignoring the small daily habits that actually make a home look clean.

About five years ago, I built my own cleaning schedule focused only on the tasks that make the biggest visual impact. The result? A home that stays tidy, calm, and ready for company — with less than 30 minutes of effort a day.

Let me walk you through it — in a way that’s easy to follow and even easier to start.

The Daily Six

These are the six tasks I do every single day. They’re simple, fast, and they change everything.

  1. Make the bed

It doesn’t matter if it’s 8 AM or 8 PM — the bed gets made before I climb in.

A made bed instantly makes your room feel put together and boosts your productivity for the rest of the day.
  2. Wash the dishes

I load the dishwasher throughout the day and run it whenever it makes sense.

    Sometimes it’s 10 items, sometimes it’s 50 — I don’t wait for it to be full.
  3. Clean the sink

If you’re emptying your sink but not scrubbing it, it’s like flossing without brushing.

A quick scrub keeps odors and buildup away.
  4. Wipe the counters

I use a multi-surface spray and wipe down kitchen and bathroom counters.

It takes seconds and makes your home look instantly cleaner.
  5. One Load a Day (OLAD)

Please, I’m begging you — implement OLAD.

One load a day keeps laundry from becoming a monster.

Your future self will thank you.
  6. Vacuum the main area

I grab my hand vac or stick vac and run it over the main living space.

Just the noticeable crumbs and chunks — before they get stomped on and carried throughout the house.

The Bonus Task: The Basket Method

Because I work from home, homeschool, and have a toddler, we use this method five times a day.

It’s simple:

  • Grab a basket
  • Toss everything inside, all the visual clutter
  • Set it aside (you will unload it when you have more time)
  • It resets the room instantly

It’s the fastest way to make a space look clean without getting stuck sorting.

The Result

Thirty minutes a day.
A tidy home.
Always ready for company.
Always calm.
Always manageable.

You don’t need a five-hour cleaning marathon. You just need the right six tasks — done daily.
